In June 2016, the India-China Yoga College was established for the University of Minzu and the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, which aims to strengthen friendship between China and India, and then in yoga to enhance mutual understanding between the two countries.
The establishment of the India-China Yoga College was taken seriously by both governments and the nation had thought a lot about it. On May 15, 2015, the Prime Minister of China Mr. Li Keqiang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chairman of Yunnan Minzu University and the Board of Directors of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations signed a memorandum of understanding on the joint establishment of India-China Yoga College. This incident was described as item 21 in the Joint Statement between the Republic of India and the People’s Republic of China. On June 13, 135, the India-Yoga College was unveiled. External Affairs Minister (Dr.) V.K. Singh and the Associate Governor of Yunnan Province participated in the ceremony and unveiled the plaque. The first yoga college was established outside India established by the Indian government.
On November 13, 2015, inauguration ceremony of the India-China Yoga College was organized. Former ambassador Mr. Ashok K. Kontha accepted the appointment letter to be the honorable Dean of the India-China Yoga College. And in January 2016, the governor of Yunnan province became an honorable dean of India-China Yoga College.
With the joint effort and support of both the Governments, India-China Yoga College has grown rapidly. The college was built with high quality. In the first phase of the establishment, the budget and fund was provided by the Chinese government to establish the college with a high level. At the same time, with the support of Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, India-China Yoga College and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga started the search for methods of cooperation, Under the autonomous organization, the Government of India started looking for ways to cooperate. The exchange of faculty of both sides, mutual recognition of the course, short term programs and students exchange and exchange of students have the same intentions. In addition, on March 21, 2016, Yunnan Minzu University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Swami Vivekananda Yoga University, which means that two universities will start collaborating on yoga research and teaching.
The establishment of the India-China Yoga College has not only strengthened the cooperation between Yunnan Minzu University and Indian Universities, but it also shows the specialty of the University, which is nationality, boundary and internationalism. This college also plays a role in the form of support for India-China education. Apart from this, the college has increased the initiative of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Silk Road Initiative, such as Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor and Yunnan South Asia and Southeast Asian Radiation Center. In the near future, the India-China Yoga College will unite the first-class Yoga teachers and increase the reputation of the college. In the end, college yoga can be a better base for teachers and yoga lovers. Meanwhile, this can be a new bridge to study yoga culture and cultural exchanges.
At present, the India-China Yoga College has opened training courses for yoga beginners and some people who have learned yoga for a long time. And the college also provides some free classes for citizens, who have won a good reputation.
