PAN card can be invalid if base is not linked to Aadhaar card before September 1
20 crore PAN card or permanent account number issued by the Income Tax Department will be declared invalid if the link is not connected with the unique Aadhaar numbers issued by UIDAI.
The decision of this effect was taken after getting the report of the illegal use of the income tax department when taking Loan or credit card. Apart from this, there are some people who use it as an identity proof in Bhutan and Nepal.
A CBDT official said that it can not be that 20 crore PAN card holders do not have Aadhar card. In the country, there are 120 crore Aadhaar holders and 43 crore pan card holders. At the same time, the official said that even in case of PAN card holder, who does’t have Aadhaar card, then it is more than 40 days to get unique ID.
In particular, once the tax department cancels the pan or invalidates then it can not be used again.
As a result, it is compulsory to connect the PAN to the Aadhaar number, failing that the PAN card will be invalid from September 1, 2019.
At the same time, in the Union Budget in 2019, FM proposed to make the Aadhaar number interchangeable with the pan.
